Carlisle United can confirm that first-year striker Sam Fishburn has joined National League North side Blyth Spartans for a three-month loan period.
Fishburn, 18, capped off an excellent first year of his scholarship when he penned a two-year professional contract (with an option) in June 2021.
He finished the 20/21 campaign as the highest scoring player in the youth leagues, with over 20 strikes to his name in all competitions.
He went on-loan to Lancaster City in November 21 where he exploded on the scene, scoring for fun, and he was recalled to feature for United’s first team, where he enjoyed a run of starts through December and early January 2022, taking his senior tally to 15 appearances.
Plucked out of the north-east local circuit, where he was playing with Wallsend Boys Club, he took to academy football like a duck to water ahead of being offered his deal.
Manager Paul Simpson said: “Sam’s had a really tough pre-season with a few issues injury wise, and otherwise. He needs to go out and play some games.
“He’s going there initially for three months so we can have a look at it. There is a 24-hour recall in that one after 28 days, with it not being a cross-border transfer.
“If he goes and performs and we think he can come back and do a job for us, we have the ability to bring him back.
“He needs to go and play, he’s missed loads of football during pre-season which is a massive part of how you prepare for the long slog ahead.
“Hopefully he’ll be able to perform well for them so he’s right when he comes back to us.”
