A week without a midweek fixture gives Keith Millen and his staff the chance to get more important work into the players as they prepare to juggle another busy run of games in the coming months.
Speaking about the importance of getting time on the training pitch, assistant gaffer Gave Skelton said: “When you’ve brought some new players in it gives them a chance to do more of the work they need to do to help them to understand what we’re asking of them.
“We’ve also got some lads coming back from injury, so it’s an opportunity for them to get closer. Sometimes when you play Saturday-Tuesday, personally I don’t mind playing because it’s good to have the games, but it does give you the chance to do a proper training week and get some more work into the ones that haven’t played, and more tactical understanding to the players that are playing on a Saturday.
“We’re going to have an in-house game because we’ve got quite a number of squad players, especially young players, and it’s important they get game time.
“Zach Clough’s coming back, Lewi Alessandra’s coming back, Josh Dixon’s back – it’s important, with Covid it’s hard to get midweek games, so it’s massive for them.
“We’ve had Brandon Comley training with us and he’s been good. He’ll play in that game and we’ll see how he goes. It’s been impossible to see him in a game and that’s when you can really judge people.”
