Carlisle United can confirm that forward Zach Clough has left the club on a free transfer, with the announcement of his arrival at an overseas club expected later this week.
Clough, 26, joined the Blues on a two-year deal during the summer 2021 transfer window. He scored three goals in 23 appearances.
He was born in Denton, Greater Manchester, and came through the youth system with Bolton Wanderers.
Having joined the club as an eight-year-old he made his debut at the age of 19, and he went on to bag 29 goals in 68 appearances during his first spell with his boyhood club.
Inevitably the scouts came calling, and that prompted Bolton to offer a new two-year deal in 2017.
That didn’t prevent Nottingham Forest from upping the ante and he made the switch to the City Ground on a four-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee [reported to be in excess of £3m] during the January 2017 transfer window.
He had loan spells with Bolton and Rochdale whilst with Forest, and he joined Wigan Athletic on a short-term deal at the end of the January 2021 transfer window.
We'll have more reaction to this news on the official website later today.
Please note - out of respect to his new club we will not be commenting on his destination until they are ready to make their signing announcements.
