A Saturday fixture against Leyton Orient is always attractive to London Branch members. It’s one of the easier grounds to reach and Brisbane Road (currently a.k.a. the Breyer Group Stadium) remains a characterful venue.
It was a penalty scored by Aston Villa’s Ray Graydon against Orient at Brisbane Road that secured our promotion to First Division in May 1974, so it has a special place in CUFC history.
Our pre-match pub is the Birkbeck Tavern in Langthorne Road, a favourite venue over the years. We’ll be joined by Nigel Clibbens, who is keen to chat to Carlisle fans, having enjoyed his pre-match pint with us ahead of the match at Sutton.
If you haven’t already bagged one of our ‘Roma v Carlisle’ shirts, good news, we’ll be selling them at the Birkbeck. These have proved such a hit, we’ve had to order a second batch, and remember that £2 from every shirt sold is donated to the Alzheimer’s Society in respect of Stan Bowles.
All Carlisle fans are very welcome to join us at the Birkbeck, whether you are a Branch member or not. The Birkbeck Tavern is a five minute walk from Leyton Tube station (Central Line) and about 15 minutes walk from the ground.
We also getting very excited about our first 11-a-side supporters match since Covid changed the world. Leyton Orientear FC are rallying their troops and we currently have 12 wonderful names on the team-sheet, with ages ranging from 12 to 60.
The match takes place on the Saturday morning at the nearby, iconic Hackney Marshes with a kick-off time likely to be 10.30am. If you are interested in playing, then contact Chris Tembey our team captain at football@cusclb.com as soon as possible.
