We held our first networking session with some of the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) groups we have been building relations with before the Sutton United home game at Brunton Park.
It was a fantastic gathering with representatives from Cumbria Pride, Every Life Matters (the suicide prevention charity), Cumbria Mental Health Services, Pride in North Cumbria, Carlisle refugee Action Group, University of Cumbria, Cumbria Police, Cumbria Fire Service, Cumbria Scouts, Remedi (the Restorative Justice organisation), along with the Carlisle United Community Sports Trust.
CEO Nigel Clibbens attended to outline the club’s work and the new EFL Code of Practice (as detailed HERE).
We are hoping this will be the first of many sessions where we can get together, share ideas, develop events and initiatives.
There are many ideas, plans and pieces of work in the pipeline and the discussions added to that, so watch this space for events coming soon!
After the meeting the groups attended the Sutton game.
Jane Anne Clark from Cumbria Pride said: “We were at Carlisle United where the Pride flags were flying because football is for everyone!
"Four of our committee were made very welcome, joining the EDI catch-up prior to the game, and we look forward to working with everyone further”
Eddie Ward from Cumbria Scouts said: “It was great to have the opportunity to talk to some of you and I look forward to working with you all.
"Thanks for the invitation for Cumbria Scouts to collaborate with like-minded organisations in our community.”
Nigel Davidson, Fan Director and EDI Officer said: “It was incredible to have the room filled with such inspirational and dedicated people.
"I’m looking forward to developing the relationships further across a range of different ideas – watch this space!”
