United boss Paul Simpson confirmed at his post-match press conference on Tuesday night that a deal is close on a new arrival as he looks to bolster numbers ahead of the Stevenage trip.
“I’m still trying to get a player in for this weekend and I hope that will happen on Thursday, but we have to just wait and see.
“It’s a defender. I think it’s done, but until they’re in the building and until I see them face to face and they’ve got our training kit on, I’m going to just wait on that one.
“It wasn’t one we felt we could get done for Tuesday.By the time we got everything agreed it was too late, because there’s no emergency loans now where you can do it at 12pm on a match day, it had to be done by 12 on Monday.
“It didn’t happen so he wasn’t in our thoughts for that game.”
