Carlisle United have tonight secured the loan signing of Arsenal defender Jonathan Dinzeyi for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.
Dinzeyi, 21, spent the entirety of his youth career with Tottenham where he made 22 appearances in Premier League 2 after first breaking through in 2017.
Before that, the young defender had made 30 appearances for Tottenham's under-18 side and was also a member of the England under-18 squad, gaining four caps at that level.
He appeared for the Gunners in the 2019/20 EFL Trophy competition in a 2-1 away win at Crawley.
Manager Chris Beech said: “I’m pleased that we got Jonathan’s deal done in time and that we have him in with us, even though it was one that went to the wire.
“The frenzy that football fans see on deadline day doesn’t always translate with the same simplicity on the other side of the fence.
“As a club, in terms of recruitment we’re continuously looking at how we can improve what we have. That’s by watching games, reviewing footage, even having conversations with players, clubs and agents.”
“With Premier League loans you’ll get told a player is yours and then in the final hour they’re keeping him in the building,” he continued. “Jonathan’s been one we’ve been forced to have a little patience with, but we’re delighted we’ve got it done.
“In terms of playing style, he’s tall and plays either left or right side of the centre. For a young player he’s composed and reads the game well.
“Coming through at Tottenham he also represented England at under-18s, actually played alongside Morgan Feeney, so that always bodes well.
“This is his first proper loan. Arsenal think he’s ready, Jonathan’s relishing the opportunity to come here, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
