YOUTH: Shrewsbury macth report

United continued their blossoming league campaign with a home game against Shrewsbury Town on Friday afternoon.

And they won the game courtesy of a disciplined performance which was supplemented by an early goal from striker Nic Bollado.

That came in the fourth minute when DJ Taylor worked space on the left flank. His dinked cross was perfect for Bollado, who kept his eye on the ball as he guided a header into the top corner.

Shrewsbury dusted themselves down but they couldn't turn pressure into chances, with the home defence solid and well organised.

Keeper Gabriel Breeze did have a save to make as a drilled effort came his way on 18 minutes, but it was Carlisle who probed again when Fishburn got on the end of a raking pass from Carr. His cross was tempting but it was just an inch too far in front of Bollado.

The Shrews enjoyed another good spell, but once again they were held at arm's length, with a speculative attempt from distance the best they could muster.

United thought they'd done enough to double their lead on 30 minutes when Bell beat his man before feeding it to Bollado. He stepped inside the area and unleashed a cruncher, but the stopper went full length to make an excellent parry. Bell was there on the follow-up but he was disappointed when he scopped a miscued volley over the bar from 10-yards out.

Watt and Leslie both rifled wide from distance for the hosts as the away team continued to struggle to make anything of note happen, and the half closed with Fishburn on the attack as he bundled his way through three challenges before being stopped in his tracks just as he shaped to shoot.

The second period took a while to get going, and Breeze had to keep his eye on another shot from range that came straight down his line of sight. And Carr had to throw himself in front of a dangerous delivery which was angled at the front stick.

United got themselves on top once  again and a succession of corners saw the visiting back line creak. And Kilsby produced a ripping header from the last of the outswingers which was set to the bulge the net until a defender got his body in the way on the line.

Sam Fishburn had a goal chalked off for offside, when he'd linked up with Bollado inside the box, but there was defending to do as a series of long throws peppered the area.

Carlisle showed reslience and desire as they protected their nets, and they almost put the game to bed late in the day when Fishburn spun to strike. Bollado was on the move and it took a ricochet off his thigh before twisting into the side netting.
