The longer trips of the season always bring selection posers for the management team and that was no different on Tuesday night, with every player in the squad chomping at the bit to be involved.
“People saw that Tristan Abrahams and Gime Toure weren’t there, but they’re an important part of our squad,” Gav Skelton explained. “They’ll be disappointed not to travel, but that’s football.
“I’ve had it plenty of times where I’ve been left behind and you’ve just got to get on with it and accept it. They’re two great lads, Tristan has worked exceptionally hard in training, and I’m sure there’ll be an opportunity around the corner for him.
“The way I’m doing things at the moment is based on how well they train, how they’ve done in reserve games and who I think will get us a result.
“Tristan trains very well, he’s a brilliant character, I have a lot of respect for him. I spoke to him yesterday and I’m sure he’ll have a massive part to play for us this season.
“Gime has had a bad back, so he didn’t travel. And Kelvin Mellor half joined in with us on Monday, he did the warm-up and the passing, so he isn’t too far away.”
