COMMUNITY: Wave of Light takes place this week

Carlisle United are proud to support the Baby Loss Awareness Week Wave of Light, which takes place on Friday 15 October.

Tragically, the loss of a baby is not a rare event and can happen to anyone, with 1 in 14 Pregnancies sadly ending in loss.

The Wave of Light sees bereaved families around the world light a candle at 7pm their local time.

The simultaneous lighting of candles across the globe symbolises a united wave of light, a powerful image to represent the experience of losing a baby.

The Wave of Light marks the final day of the 19th successive year of Baby Loss Awareness week which began last Saturday.

Baby Loss Awareness week brings together a number of fantastic charities who work tirelessly to help raise awareness as well as vital funds for research and support. Those charities include Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity (Sands).

Sands work to reduce the number of babies dying and to ensure that anyone affected by the death of a baby receives the best possible care and support for as long as they need it.

The week aims to engage with people from all backgrounds and experiences of loss and this year looked to highlight the isolation many people experience after pregnancy and baby loss, whether that be women, partners, other family members or friends.

You can take part by lightening a candle in memory of a baby gone too soon, posting a picture and adding #WaveofLight.
