A fifth yellow card of the season for Callum Guy, picked up in the final minute of the 0-0 home draw with Barrow last weekend, brings an automatic one-game suspension for the captain, meaning he’ll miss out on the weekend away game at St James Park.
The skipper has been an ever-present in the league for the Blues this season, having committed his future to the club with a new two-year deal back in September, and boss Keith Millen admitted that it’s just another situation that has to be dealt with.
“Callum’s suspended, which is a frustration, because it was a harsh, silly booking that has led to this,” he said. “We’ve got to deal with that but it gives someone else an opportunity to come in.
“It means the armband goes elsewhere as well, and we haven’t really discussed that yet. I’ve not really thought about it.
“I’ll think about it in the next couple of days. Sometimes I look at players and think - is the armband going to make them better and affect their game in a positive way.
“Sometimes it can be a negative, some people put the armband on and it can have a negative effect on their game.
“I need to speak to the staff, who know the characters a bit better than me at the moment, and we will probably decide on Friday.”
