Last week’s Tuesday night visit to the Jonny Rocks Stadium brought to an end a run of 11 solid weeks of Saturday-Tuesday fixtures for the Blues, with Chis Beech’s side having managed to weather that particular storm by making themselves extremely hard to beat.
Heading into the final week of the campaign, it now seems strange not to be preparing for a midweek game, and we wondered what that would mean in terms of workload for the squad.
“Well, the lads can have Bank Holiday Monday off,” the manager told us. “In this game we can’t just have a week off and say I‘m not on Twitter for a week. We have to carry on, as we’ve done through some pretty extreme circumstances this year.
“The schedule has been horrific, so the lads will have Monday off and we’ll fitness test them hard on Tuesday to see where we all are. We’ll have Wednesday off, and then we’ll prepare for Walsall on Thursday and Friday.
“Another sign of how strange this year is for us to be in a situation leading up to the weekend is for us to not even be considering if we can we do anything together. Are the players even allowed to meet after the game on Saturday?
“It’s such a sad situation and nobody’s told me anything, so I don’t know. Do the lights go out and we all go home? I don’t know what happens after Saturday, but what I do know is that we’ll go into the game looking to finish the season off on a high.”
