MATCH PREVIEW: Short trip to the seaside

This is one where it really does hurt that we can't have fans at games.

  Carlisle wins Draws Morecambe wins
League 5 8 2
Cup 2 3 1
FA Cup 1 1 0
Total 8 12 3

We tend to see more away supporters than home when these teams come together by the seaside, but we're hoping that you'll be able to watch every kick via our iFollow service. See below for details of how to purchase your match pass.

Morecambe have won just one of the 13 games when they've hosted United on their own patch - that was a 3-1 EFL Trophy group match victory in November 2019 - and they have yet to beat the Blues at home in league competition.

These teams tend to bring out the best in each other, so expect another exciting encounter come the weekend.

The Shrimps have lost just three of their last 10 games and that run has seen them move to within two points of the automatic places.

It's been a very steady and consistent season from Morecambe, who are enjoying the 'surprise package' tag as they continue to loiter around those upper reaches.

44 goals scored and 43 conceded suggests that things tend to be tight, but 15 league victories shows that Derek Adams has got them digging out important results when they're needed.

January transfer business ended when Alex Denny joined from Salford on-loan. Keepers Kyle Letheren (Chesterfield) and Jokull Andresson (Reading) also bolstered the ranks, with Blackburn midfielder Brad Lyons also making his way to the Globe Arena

Carlos Mendes Gomes is in fine form - he scored two of the three goals in the midweek 3-1 home victory over Crawley - but we're going for former-Blue Cole Stockton.

He now has seven for the season (he bagged the opener in Tuesday's game) and there's no doubt he'll be looking to do well against the Cumbrians.

One goal in his 12 appearances at United made it a frustrating period, but he's playing with confidence once again and, with his strength and size, must always be considered a threat.

These teams met up in Carlisle in October 2020 where a first minute own goal from Yann Songo'o was quickly followed by a second from Jon Mellish. Songo'o scored at the other end on 79 minutes, to make it interesting, but George tanner settled the nerves with a late third strike.

Morecambe were at Brunton Park in February 2020 and early goals from Cole Stockton and Aaron Wildig put them in the driving seat. The hosts bit back with a strike from Omari Patrick just before the break and Aaron Hayden completed the comeback midway through the secind period.

The December 2019 league meeting at the Globe was, rather unsurprisingly, a 1-1 draw. Hallam Hope put the away side in front just two minutes after the break but former-Blue John O'Sullivan squared things up just three minutes later.

Our first meeting that season was for the Leasing.com group game in November 2019. History was made on the night when Jarrad Branthwaite become the club's youngest ever goalscorer, but Andrew Tutte, Aaron Wildig and Luke Conlan struck back in the last half hour to take the points for the hosts.

United were first-footers on New Year's Day at the Globe in January 2019 when goals from Jamie Devitt and Jack Sowerby secured a strong 2-0 away victory.

The Shrimps were last at Brunton Park in October 2018 and they took a grip on the game before the half hour mark, with goals from AJ Leitch-Smith and Vadaine Oliver providing a two-goal cushion. United never recovered and the game ended 2-0 in favour of the visitors.

Morecambe twice took the lead in our Checkatrade Trophy group game at the start of September that same year but stunning goals from George Glendon and Macaulay Gillesphey took us into the break all-square. Then a first goal for the club for Jerry Yates, with 15 minutes left to play, proved to be the match winner as the Blues closed ranks to claim their points.

The sides met on three occasions during the 2017/18 campaign, with both league games running out as 1-1 draws.
