It was almost inevitable that within minutes of the news breaking that the Fleetwood Town managerial hotseat was available that Carlisle boss Chris Beech – who has existing close links with the area – would immediately be linked with the vacant position.
Rumours, as ever, breed rumours and counter-rumours, so we spoke to the manager to clear things up about the situation on Friday afternoon.
“I’d be lying if I said I’m not aware of it, because everybody contacts you saying ‘what’s happening’, of course they do,” he replied. “ I have a lot of respect for Fleetwood, it’s my home town, I love going back there, seeing my mum and dad, walking down the sea front and I often watch Fleetwood games.
“I do know the chairman very well, my family’s associated with the club. It’s pointless denying it. But in terms of how you would class jumping ship or doing something like that at this point, I have no interest in that.
“I just want to be - I’m attached to this journey we’ve started back when I first came to this football club. I love working for Carlisle and I feel very attached to the players we’ve recruited and what we’re doing.
“I think that comes out in our work. I was aware of the rumours, but there’s no headline for you on that one.”
