MANAGER: It will be a very tough game

The Blues return to action with a home game against Exeter City tomorrow afternoon [kick off 1pm] and we spoke to manager Chris Beech to get his thoughts ahead of two very good teams going head-to-head.

“It will be a very tough game,” he said. “They’ll be disappointed with the midweek result, but they’ve shown over the last couple of seasons that when things like that happen they respond very positively.

“They also know how competitive we were when we played them last time, and Matt [Taylor] was very respectful about the way we finished that game with ten men, so there’s a lot of respect between us.

“It’s a game of football, we want to protect the point we’ve got when we start and then turn it into three.”

“Our last meeting, unfortunately Gime got sent off because it was an end-to-end type situation without either team really dominating it,” he continued. “If you look at the shots and stats, it looked like we did, but we didn’t get that real stranglehold.

“The pleasing thing from that game was that we had ten men for 35 minutes and we put a very good team on the back foot. It looked like we were going to get an equaliser, or possibly be in with a chance of winning, but we didn’t.

“That’s fact now, we didn’t, and well done to them for getting the win. I have no doubt they’ll come up here expecting a tough match, but they have some unbelievable players and we’ll have to be at our best. It’ll just be great to get going again and to see where we are.”

“Their manager has done a great job,” he concluded. “I know they try and produce their own players and sell, I know they got a massive windfall and do get windfalls from players who go on to better things, and I know they’ve got transfer speculation around one of their players currently.

“At the same part, they’re in a good place, they’ve got a good situation going on there. I’m hopeful when we can let our tigers and lions out of the pen, they’re ready to eat. We’ll have to wait and see.”
