Tuesday night provided us with an opportunity to speak to manager Chris Beech for the first time about the January transfer window, with it having closed on Monday evening.
“We’ve come out of January with a good squad so I’m excited,” he said. “We’ll try and utilise it to the best of our abilities. We’ve got to make sure the half of the squad who haven’t had Covid stay safe, and the lads who have had it recover from it, because some of them still aren’t back at work yet and are still ill.
“We’ve got to make sure we pick a team to represent us in the right way and the players who come on try and support and assist that. That’s exactly what we got on Tuesday, we just didn’t get the points to go with it.
“I commend everybody’s effort, but now I’m just excited about the next 23 opportunities we have. It would be nice to have them regularly, and when we’re supposed to play them, but I don’t think that will happen. We just have to accept that and make sure we’re ready when the games do come.”
“Overall it was quieter than last January,” he added. “We’re just pleased that we’ve got a really good team together.
“We lock down the cockpit now, we’re on the aeroplane now, we can’t get off it, everybody’s in it. We’ve got 23 games now to attack and I’m really pleased about that.
“I’m very happy, very proud to represent the players for our supporters, very proud to be the manager to tell our supporters that we’ve got these honest lads who are giving everything, and we’ll see how it goes.
“We’ve had to be adaptable in the first 23 games we’ve completed, and I think it will be the same in the second half of the season. We’ve got to make sure that when we get the opportunity to play a game, we’re ready.”
