MANAGER: We have our targets

The opening of the January window is now just a fortnight away, with manager Keith Millen, as you might imagine, working away in the background to try to get his ducks in a row as he looks to add competition to his squad.

“You’d love to get two or three through the door, certainly in that window after the Papa John’s game [Tuesday 4 january, tbc], then we’ve got that 10 or 11 days where there’s a break in the fixtures,” he said.

“That for me is when I’d love to get some players in, because you’ve got that big period then to work with them.

“Whether that happens or not, normally it doesn’t, but that’s what we’re tyring to do. We’re trying now to narrow down our search. Whatever we’re looking for now, can we start having number 1, number 2, number 3 targets, trying to get them closer.

“What you find in this window is a lot of clubs won’t commit early on. It’s very rare that you’re able to get a deal done before the window opens, and that can be frustrating at times.

“We keep working really hard every day, a lot of discussions, and we’ve got our targets. It’s just how quickly we can get them through the door.”

And on the potential for players to head out the other way, he told us: “I can honestly say I’ve not had conversations with anyone about our players, which is good.

“I don’t really want to have those conversations. I’m happy working with this group, and I’m thinking more about bringing players in to enhance what we’re trying to do here.

“I don’t need to bring in more players for numbers. We have 20 training every day, and I want to be able to bring in some of the young lads, as we already have, into the squad. I’m not going to collect players, that’s for sure.”
