United finally got their delayed season under way with an away game at Walsall on Saturday afternoon.
And they overcame an early setback, when they went a goal behind, to record a comfortable victory from what is always a tough away day.
Youth boss Mark Birch said: "It's one of those trips that's a long one but the lads coped with that and we come away feeling really pleased with the performance.
"We could easily have crumbled when we went behind early on, from a free kick, and with the chances we created we could have scored even more.
"Nic Bollado scored twice, and Mason Hardy got the other, and there was a real sense of confidence. It's a good way to finally get our season started."
More to follow next week.
