With the addition of Villa striker Brad Young and the return of fellow forward Zach Clough to full fitness manager Chris Beech finds himself with good options with every player knocking on the door for a starting shirt.
Having used the aforementioned pair in the latter stages of the Port Vale game on Tuesday night, he said: “They’re very attack-minded people in their heads and, like I said after the game, we got the ball to Zach but on every occasion he got fouled.
“It was disappointing we didn’t get rewarded as much as you should when that happens, because Port Vale often got a free-kick for them.
“It’s evident they’ve both got goals in them, intent to score and attacking prowess, and a mind to do that.
“I tried to finish the game with two strikers, which we did, but without giving the middle of the pitch up against a team that was trying to bombard you. All in all I was pleased, but we couldn’t get that clear chance where they could really show their capability.”
“And we also have Danny Devine,” he added. “He’s due to join in, I’ll be meeting my physio and having that chat with him.
“Whether he does or doesn’t, he’ll be hopefully very near to doing that, we’ll have to wait and see.”
