The final week of August is also the final week of the transfer window and Chris Beech confirmed that work is ongoing as he looks for the right type of character to add to the mix.
“There’s always something that can be better, but you have constraints of who you are and what you can do,” he said. “We’re completely maximising what it is and we have to concentrate on what we’re trying to achieve.
“We get compliments on much of what we do but you always have your eyes open to what can make you better. If I feel we can add to it, I will, and if we get the right sort of character who will fit into our dressing room, we’ll look at it.
“People tend to look at things like Saturday and talk about what they think is needed, and it’s all about opinions. It is difficult. People say it’s your job, get on with it, but there are all sorts of circumstances that come your way that you have to deal with.
“It’s important our players represent themselves and us properly, and that’s why they don’t give in. Even on Saturday, we’re a centimetre away from a winning goal from Manny Mampala and if he touches that we score and everybody is really happy.
“Zach Clough is probably disappointed, his free kick was excellent, and hopefully he can grow more now that he’s getting pitch time again. He has those touches and passes we’ve seen, and I have no doubt he’ll bring us more.
“I must say I think the standard in League Two has gone up. The first three or four games we’ve seen this season have shown us an increase in quality. Our players are part of that, and that’s why we’re competing every step of the way.
“If we add, we want them to show the same traits, and that’s why it’s important to get the right people.”
