International call ups for Marcus Dewhurst [England U20] and Josh Kayode [Ireland U21] mean that manager Chris Beech will be without the pair for the trip to Port Vale on Saturday.
Speaking about the enforced absences, manager Chris Beech said: “They’re making my job harder, that’s all they’re doing!
“It’s hard times isn’t it, JJ’s off to Italy and Marcus is off to St George’s to enjoy himself in the England camp.
“It shows we recruit well and we treat players right, it shows great practice. JJ has been quiet on the international scene for a good two or three years, so by him coming here last Christmas, and doing what he’s done and what he did against Southend, I think it’s highlighted the fact it’s a good reward for him.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m really pleased for the players, it just makes my job harder. Basically Marcus is available for Tuesday but JJ isn’t, and they both miss Saturday.”
“Like I say, it’s strange really because we’ve recruited a lot of young players and it’s great that they’re getting rewarded with international call ups, but I’ll be honest with you I’d rather JJ was here with us next week playing Port Vale, and I’d rather he’d scored two goals on Saturday.
“He didn’t manage that, so it’s a learning curve for him and it just goes to show that the type of players we’ve recruited are good ones.
“In terms of the keepers, Magnus [Norman] has trained all last week with no reaction, so that’s great news. It’s a shame, really, because I wanted to start Marcus at Sunderland, but that poses me the problem that if I play Marcus, he goes to England, but Magnus is back involved with us next Saturday and not had any game time. I’ve got to do what’s right for Carlisle.”
