It was a rearranged midweek trip to Poolfoot Farm for United on Wednesday afternoon as the Blues went head-to-head with Fleetwood Town.
And it turned into a disappointing afternoon for the under-18 side as Fleetwood took their chances to ease themselves to a comfortable three points.
Youth boss Eric Kinder said: "It was a tough one for us. We didn't play well and Fleetwood took advantage of that.
"The gaffer [Chris Beech] came to watch the game, and he spoke to the lads after full time to give them a few pointers.
"It's good for them to see that their manager has this level of interest, because he's a busy man, but he's still scheduled his day so that he could get to an away game to watch them play.
"We have Preston away on Saturday, which is another tough one, but it goes without saying that I'll be looking for them to bounce back."
More details to follow.
