The story of April 1995 was two-fold – the history making first ever trip to Wembley to face Birmingham City and the gaining of the points needed to bring the league title up to Cumbria.

In the league, a 2-1 win over Mansfield on the first day of the month was the third consecutive win by that score, but a slight wobble had to be endured as the Blues suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time that season. Bury and Hartlepool took the spoils.
But it was fitting that David Reeves bagged the only goal in the last game of the month at Layer Road, Colchester, which brought the silverware up north.
Into May and a Reeves double in a 2-1 away win at Chesterfield took his tally for the season to 21, making him the first player to net over 20 in a season for the club for 12 years.
The same game was league victory number 27 for manager Mick Wadsworth, a record number of victories from a season that had brought hope back to a club that had been floundering for far too long.
