MATCH REPORT: Tuesday night in Yorkshire

The steady run of festive fixtures continued as the Blues headed to Harrogate for a Tuesday night midweek fixture.

And the game had to try to beat the weather as heavy overnight snow, and dipping temperatures, brought referee James Oldham to the ground early - just as volunteers had finished shovelling the snow off the pitch.

Both managers gave a firm surface the thunbs up, and it was all systems go despite the cold conditions.

Manager Chris Beech made just one change for the Saturday starting line up with Dean Furman in for Jon Mellish, who had picked up a knock during the Monday training session.

Gime Toure had returned to France for personal family reasons, and Gav Reilly also missed out.

It was the worst possible start for the away side as right back Fallowfield overlapped with just 55 secoinds on the clock. His deep cross found Kirby on the sprint at the back post and he made no mistake as he sent a thundering header into the roof of the net from close range.

Home tails were up and Thomson found space when he came forward moments later. His shot was deflected away for a corner, but he was there again when his initial delivery was cleared. He dropped a shoulder and let one go but Guy got in the way of his goal bound effort.

United earned a corner as they looked to settle and it came off Burrell on its way to being cleared. Kayode tried to keep it alive, as did Patrick, but Harrogate were able to hook it clear.

Temperatures dropped dramatically and match referee Martin Coy opted for safety first and the match was abandoned as the conditions worsened with just eight minutes on the clock.
