Carlisle United and Oldham Athletic have agreed to utilise the first weekend of September to play their first round Carabao Cup fixture.
The Cumbrians, as usual, were drawn out of the hat last when Paul Merson conducted the draw earlier this week and, in a further shock, that meant we were yet again pulled out as the away side.
The meeting between the teams will continue the build-up towards the new league season, with Carlisle set to make the trip to the Abbey Stadium to face Cambridge United the following week.
"I said at my press conference yesterday that this is a game to look forward to," manager Chris Beech told us. "We know that Harry Kewell will have his team drilled and ready, and so will we.
"It's away, and behind closed doors, but our fans will be watching on the iFollow service and we'll be going there to represent them in the way I know they expect.
"I think it’s a good game because it will give us chance to see where we are. They’re a similar club to us in terms of league position, I know they’ve had a bit of turbulence off the pitch but they’re also somehow recruiting some very good players, so they’ll provide us with a massive test."
