The young Blues were in Mansfield on Friday night to play the last group game of their 2019/20 Youth Alliance Cup campaign.
Defeats to Rotherham, Doncaster and Fleetwood meant they couldn't progress, but they were looking for a positive result to bring a close to their round-robin fixture set.
United took the lead with just 10 minutes on the clock when DJ Taylor smashed one into the net from distance. But it lastest just five minuets as Arun Jones jumped highest to bring the teams back to all-square.
The game was turned on its head on 17 minutes when Scott had a penalty saved by Robinson. Ryan Ingram was quickest to react for the Stags and he popped the loose ball home.
But it was a brace for DJ Taylor ahead of the break as he finished off a good move to take it into half time at 2-2.
Carlisle kept going after the break and Jamie Armstrong put the visitors back in front with another good finish just before the hour.
Scott made amends for his earlier spot kick miss when he bagged a leveller with just three minutes left to play, and that was how it ended as the clubs took a share of the spoils.
