United boss Steven Pressley confirmed today that striker Jerry Yates, who notched seven goals in his 29 appearances from his half-season loan spell last season, is well and truly on the radar as he looks for the right type of players to add to his squad for the 2019/20 campaign.
“With Jerry, we have to respect Rotherham on this because they’re his parent club,” he explained. “However, if an opportunity does arise to sign him then we’ll certainly be putting our hat in the ring.
“He’s a player who forged a great bond with the supporters when he was here and he made a really good impression on the people within the club. He’s a striker who fits the profile we’re looking for and he would one hundred percent be of interest to us.”
Fleetwood forward Ashley Nadesan was another who made a big impact as he bagged 13 goals over two very successful loan spells with the Blues.
“We found out probably four to six weeks ago that if he is to make a move this summer, he wants it to be so that he can back down south,” he revealed. “I think he’s been linked with Crawley but, whatever, we were made aware that his partner was very keen to move closer to home.
“I think that’s very much at the forefront with any decision he will make. I know he thoroughly enjoyed it here, but the geography wasn’t correct for it to be his next move.”
And the news that winger Nathan Thomas has been placed on the transfer list by Sheffield United also brought confirmation that he would fit the bill could a deal be done.
“Nathan is one we’re keeping close tabs on,” he commented. “David [Holdsworth] has talked to his agent on a couple of occasions because he’s a player we’d like to bring back.
“It would either be a situation where he came to some form of agreement with his club, or we’d have to consider the loan route. He’s certainly a high priority for us.”
