Attacking wide man Nathan Thomas notched his first goal for the club on Saturday with an opportunistic strike just minutes into the second half.
The stand-out performer on an afternoon of good performances, we spoke to the manager after the game about the emergence of the energetic winger.
“I think Nathan showed why we signed him,” Steven Pressley said. “I’ve spoken to him recently about the fact that it’s that type of performance I want to see more of from him.
“He needs to be one of those who, when he isn’t playing particularly well, keeps doing things for the team. The pleasing thing is that he is looking dangerous at the moment, and that’s a good thing for all of us.”
“His goal will be a really important one for him, and it was equally as important for the team,” he continued. “He probably had three or four unbelievable chances, and I know he’ll have been feeling deflated that he hadn’t put at least one of them away.
“The really pleasing thing is that I said to him at half time that he had to keep going in there. He did that and he finished off a big opportunity for us.
“Like I say, that proved to be an important goal and it topped off what was a superb individual performance from him. He looked like the player we’ve been looking to find for the past month or so and he should be feeling really pleased with himself.”
“I’ve spoken to him about the fact that I know he’s the type of player who can score a goal at any given moment with the pace and footballing ability he has,” he added. “But, with that, he has to become a more reliable player
“When you’re pushing hard you find that your manager is more willing to be patient with you. He was disciplined without the ball and fantastic with it on Saturday, and that’s exactly what we want from him.
“He gave me the type of performance I’m looking for but I still think there’s more to come from him, and that’s the honest truth. I think his fitness can improve greatly and with that we’ll see a much better player.”
