A huge thanks goes to Jimmy Brennan and Carlisle Villa Boxing Club for helping the Blues to stage training sessions with a difference over the course of the next three weeks.
The lads will be put through their paces in the boxing ring and on the bags and boxing equipment with exercises which will provide physical tests of a completely different kind.
Strength and conditioning coach Dave Waldie said: “When you put together a training plan as intensive as something like a pre-season schedule you’re always looking for something different, as much to keep the lads interested as for anything else.
“With boxing training, it provides that element of being new to most of the lads, and it also gives them transferable skills as we look for the type of channelled aggression which will benefit them within training and match day environments.
“These sessions [every Thursday afternoon for three weeks] are conditioning their bodies using methods they aren’t used to and, having been there for the first time this week, we can see that the lads are really enjoying it.
“We have a number of them who have an interest in martial arts anyway – Hallam Hope enjoys Muay Thai, for example – so this is now something they’re looking forward to.
“I’d like to thank Jimmy and everybody at Carlisle Villa for the help and assistance they are giving us with these sessions.”
