United boss Steven Pressley confirmed today that trialist Michael Chambers had been excused from the Lake District adventure training package [held with Adventure 21 at Coniston on Wednesday and Thursday this week] having accepted the offer a trial with another club.
“Michael and his representatives told me on Tuesday evening that an opportunity had come up for him to spend a trial period elsewhere,” he explained. “They asked me what my thoughts were on that and I was completely honest with Michael when I spoke to him.
“I told him that I wouldn’t be in a position to make a decision on him for another two or three weeks yet, and that I wouldn’t want to stand in his way if he felt that he wanted to accept the offer of another trial.
“I explained to him that we were also looking at other players in his position, but that he could still return here if the circumstances were right. That’s something that could happen going forward, we’ll just have to wait and see.”
And the Carlisle manager also confirmed that he’s closing in on the permanent signing of a central defender who has Championship and League One experience.
The experienced centre back has been a summer target for the Blues and could become the seventh signing if a deal is agreed, as expected, in the coming days.
