Carlisle United Football Club would like to thank CUOSC for their efforts in collecting donations for the Carlisle Foodbank ahead of the Grimsby Town home game on Saturday.
Generous United fans pulled together magnificently to leave the Study Centre quite literally packed with tinned and packaged items which will go a long way to making life easier for individuals and families local to the area.
CUOSC Billy Atkinson said: “I have to say a huge thank you on behalf of CUOSC for the response we got to the Carlisle Foodbank appeal.
“The staff at the Foodbank are extremely grateful and we can’t explain enough how much of a difference it will make.
“Once again we have shown how much compassion there is in this city, and how we can all pull together in such a meaningful way.
“Thank you to all of the CUOSC members who helped to organise the collection and, more importantly, to those who donated on the day.”
Chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “CUOSC have organised and facilitated a number of collections like this before, but I think it’s fair to say that they were pleasantly surprised at the response this time round.
“By all accounts it’s the most successful collection of this type that they’ve had, and my thanks and congratulations go on behalf of us all to Billy Atkinson and his team from CUOSC.
“The biggest thank you, of course, goes to the fans who made their donations. Once again it demonstrates what the people of Carlisle and Cumbria are about.
“We had players pop along to help with the collection of the items [Jack Bridge and Jack Iredale] and they both commented on how busy it was on the day as supporters came along to hand over much-needed items and food.
“Having spoken to the staff at Carlisle Foodbank we know these donations are vital, particularly at what is a tough time of year for some people, and CUOSC and the fans of Carlisle United can be proud of what they’ve achieved.”
The items were delivered to Carlisle Foodbank on Monday afternoon with the more perishable stock making its way to families and individuals throughout the day.
