YOUTH: Soroksar FC 0 - 4 United

United played the first of three fixtures as part of their Erasmus+ tour to Budapest on Friday night with the young Blues showing a good attitude to work their way to a victory.

Academy boss Eric Kinder said: “It was a good opportunity for us to play the lads who haven’t been getting much game time so far.

“The keeper and right back were from our under-16 squad, so it was a younger than normal side, and if I’m being honest it was up and down in terms of our performance through the 90 minutes.

“It started well because we took the lead after 80 seconds when Lewis Bell was chopped own inside the area. Jamie Armstrong stepped forward to take the penalty and he finished it well.

“We lost our composure a little bit after that, and we didn’t keep the ball for long enough to allow ourselves to build up a head of steam, and we were guilty of some poor decision making in key areas.

“To be fair to Soroksar, they had the better of it leading up to the break, but we doubled our lead against the run of play just before half time.”

“We spoke to the lads at half time, and we changed our shape, and the football was better,” he added. “Ryan Swailes scored two more, which was pleasing, but we saw a lot of areas where we need to improve our game.

“That’s what it’s all about at this stage of the season, so we come out of the game feeling happy with the result but knowing that there’s still plenty to do.”

And on the facilities at the training camp, he told us: “It’s absolutely magnificent. It’s like a mini St George’s Park.

“They have absolutely everything you can think of from state-of-the-art gymnasiums to saunas and steam rooms, and the pitches are in great condition.

“The staff can’t do enough for us and it’s an excellent learning environment for the players. We have another game on Tuesday, followed by a third fixture on Saturday, and the Hungarian FA have a lot of things planned for the lads in between.

“After a difficult weather badgered journey to get here, it’s becoming a very enjoyable trip.”
