The Young Blues were back in Youth Alliance Cup action this afternoon when they made the long trip into north Wales to face Wrexham in the second of their group games.

And goals from Keighran Kerr and Josh Galloway earned United their first point in the competition from what was a tight encounter.

Youth boss Darren Edmondson said: "Both teams worked hard and you could tell that both sides wanted the win.

"We edged it on match stats and on chances created, but we just couldn't finish them off.

"It was a good reaction to the disappointment of the Wigan result last weekend and it was pleasing  to see the lads pick themselves up and get back to playing some good football.

"The final group game is against Bury in October and we know what we have to do now if we want to stay in the competition.

"There are some good league games to be dealt with between now and then, so we'll look to get on another unbeaten run and get some momentum going again."

United - Ward, Barnes, Brockbank, Casson, Lightfoot, Wison, Galloway, Armstrong (Charters 55), Kerr, Papa (Rooks 75), Birch (Soper 67). Sub - McLachlan.
