We spoke to Fleetwood loanee Jack Sowerby shortly after full time on Saturday as he made his debut for United when he came off the bench in the second half at the One Call Stadium.

“I’m delighted to be here,” he said. “I can’t wait to get going and get some games under my belt. It was nice to get chance to go on at Mansfield and try and make a difference.

"I wanted to go on and try and help the team get back into the game, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

“I wasn’t nervous or anything when the gaffer told me I was going on. I know what to expect, I’ve played a few games now. I was just delighted to get a chance to try and help the lads.

“I got on the ball quite early after, which does settle you down a little bit, and I enjoyed it even though the result wasn't what we wanted."

Speaking about how the move came about, he told us: “There was a hint of a loan move a while ago, but it didn’t happen.

"I spoke to the Fleetwood manager on Thursday and everything happened really quickly. I’m just glad to be here.

“I had a good season last year with Fleetwood and I just want to build on that now. Hopefully we can do something good here this season.

"I like to think I’ve got a bit of everything, I’m a good runner, I can pass it and I can finish as well. I like to get goals, but I’ll just try and work hard for the team."

But does he come here feeling he has something to prove?

“I’ve had to keep proving myself at Fleetwood, because we’ve had quite a few managers, so I just keep working hard and thankfully it’s paying off," he commented. "Fleetwood want me to earn my place in the team then try and stay in it and get as much game time as I can.

“You’ve got to be confident in this game and this is a challenge I’m really looking forward to. I spoke to Ash [Nadesan] before I came and he had nothing but good things to say about the club, and it’s nice to have him here because he’s a familiar face.

"All the lads have been really welcoming but having someone you know does help you settle quicker.

“I’m looking forward to hopefully starting in front of the home fans against Morecambe on Tuesday now. Obviously that's up to the manager, but I do want to prove myself, especially when I’m playing in front of fans and players who don’t know me.

"The gaffer knows what I’m about after playing under him last year, but I want to show him what I can do for this club as well.”
