United boss John Sheridan added two new additions to his squad ahead of the weekend trip to Mansfield and he admitted after the game that he was pleased to have bolstered the squad with another busy period on the near horizon.

“It was good to get them in because we need bodies with the number of games coming up,” he said. “Adding to the squad enables me to do more and to make changes as and when needed.

“With Luke O’Reilly, he’s a young keeper who wants to make his name in the game. He’ll be here to compete with Adam Collin, so it’s up to him to stake a claim for playing first team football.”

“Jack Sowerby’s a good player,” he added. “I liked him when I was at Fleetwood, and he hasn’t been playing down there recently, so that gave us a chance to bring him in.

“He can play a few positions and he’s a good addition. He’s got a good engine, he gets around the pitch and he’s a player who can get goals.”
