United boss John Sheridan confirmed at his weekly press conference on Thursday afternoon that he’s expecting more of the same from his players this weekend following what was a very good performance, despite the result, last time out.
“We’ve responded well when we’ve lost a game this season and I’m looking for that again,” he said. “We all know it’s important that we don’t go on a losing streak. It’s also important that we stay in the mix at the top end of the table.
“I think it’s a division that’s going to be really tight all the way through. Look at us, if we’d won on Saturday we’d have gone third. We lost, and we dropped to eleventh, and that’s just how this league is.
“I expect it to be that way for a long time to come. We’re at a level where you can win five on the trot, or you can lose five on the trot. If we go by results, Newport were second last week and they got beat 6-0 at home. Work that out.”
“Everyone knows that if you average two points per game it will get you in the play-offs and close to automatic promotion,” he added. “The aim has to be for us all to think along those lines.
“If we play and perform in the way we can, we win games. We’ve seen that, so my thought process is always to go and try to win. That’ll be the same this weekend.”
