The under-18 side are in league action again next Tuesday as they face Morecambe at Parkside Road [kick off 11am on Tuesday morning].
We spoke to youth boss Darren Edmondson ahead of training on Thursday morning as the lads continued their match preparations and build-up.
“Last weekend’s result was disappointing [2-0 defeat to Rochdale] but we’ve watched the game back with the lads and they know they had chances in the game,” he said. “When we got into the final third we lacked a little bit, but we don’t want to start talking about lads who weren’t there who could have helped us.
“It’s down to the lads who are there to take their opportunities. We got enough of the ball into the attacking third but we weren’t clever enough on the day to make something happen. That isn’t something we’ll dwell on because we don’t need to be too negative.”
“It’s about Morecambe on Saturday now,” he added. “That’ll be played at Kendal, which is a different place to go because it’s a bit of stadium for them to play in. That gives the game a different feel and it’ll be another good experience.
“The boys were disappointed about last week’s defeat but the emotional side of dealing with these games is all part of the development process they go through. They’re all very fit but some of the first years have probably been thrust into playing every week a bit sooner than anticipated, because of the injuries we’ve had with our second year players.
“The more game time the first years get, the more that helps them, because it is all about development. When you’re having set-backs it’s about overcoming it, and myself and Gavin are there to try to help them to do that. Hopefully it’ll be another good performance and that’s the reaction we’ll be looking for.”
