The first weekly meeting of the Carlisle United Business Support Network [CUBSN] – sponsored by Wannop – has been held in Foxy’s Restaurant with local businesses coming together in a very informal setting to launch what will become a valuable networking group.

With an aim to encourage local businesses to work together and support one another through relaxed networking, work related referrals and business socialising, the group will also seek to support Carlisle United wherever they can and in as many ways as possible.

It is aimed to grow to a small group of 30 members who will interact closely with each other to provide mutual advice, assistance, business opportunities and support. Members will be expected to do business with each other. It is a minimal cost option focused around short weekly breakfast meetings where members can network and do business directly together.

It will sit alongside the new United for Business club providing a complementary but very different option for businesses.

The Business Support Network’s chairman, Jason Greene, opened the meeting and welcomed over 20 businesses with an introduction to the aims of the group before handing the floor over to Kevin Dobinson, who spoke about the club’s support for BSN and the work ongoing in United’s commercial department.

Members were then able to talk briefly about their business, their products and services, and exchange initial thoughts on the group, before the meeting closed with the chance for members to mingle and discuss further any opportunities going forward. All wrapped up in just 45 minutes.

Group chairman Jason Greene said: “My thanks goes to Carlisle United, Eddie Wannop - our sponsor - and to the group members. It is the members who make the group what it is and their friendliness, support and referral business has already been shown.”

Jenny Anderson CUFC Commercial Manager said: “This is a new initiative aimed at new businesses. We hope they will get a lot out of it in terms of doing business together. In turn it gives us the chance to meet new people and they can get closer to the club, which can only help Carlisle United.

“At the same time the United for Business group will run alongside this network, and we expect that forum to continue to grow. It’s important that we offer different options as we look to build new links and strengthen the important existing relationships and partnerships already in place.”
