It was back to Alliance League action for the young Blues this weekend as they welcomed Walsall to Creighton.

The Saddlers have had an unusually sticky start to their campaign this time round, with three defeats and three draws from their first six outings, but academy boss Darren Edmondson was under no illusion that this was going to be a tough test.

"Walsall are one of the sides who are usually up there, so we all expect them to get going at some point soon," he said. "In the end it was a game of few chances, and we paid the price for a defensive lapse.

"It's on to cup action next week at Fleetwood so we'll be looking to pick the lads up and get them going for that."

United: Ward, Barnes, Brockbank, Casson, Fawcett (Wilson 70), Lightfoot, Galloway (Charters 60), Wombwell (Armstrong 75), Kerr, Papa (Soper 60), Birch. Sub: McLachlan.
