Second year professional Jack Egan was back at work this week determined to make a mark as he confirmed his place with the Blues when he put his signature on a six-month deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the beginning of next year.

“It’s good to be back with the lads in what is a different environment this time round,” he said. “It’s nice to have the deal signed and it’s a great opportunity for me with the new manager and his staff coming in.

“Last year was quite difficult because we weren’t with the first team squad all the time, but it’s looking good for that this year.”

“The manager has spoken to me and he’s said that there’s a shot, there’s a chance, but it’s up to me to take it,” he added. “He told me that if I want to start in the first game of the season I have to show that I’m good enough.

“I’m definitely going to try my best to get into the team and then I’ll be doing what I can to stay in there.”

And with the team spirit already starting to build following a punishing series of sessions, he told us: “The good thing about these lads is that they help to get you through it. It’s a great environment and I really do feel part of it.

“Everyone has been very welcoming and that makes it easier to get on with it together. I did make sure I did bits over the summer to help me to get ready for this, because it is hard, and the next six weeks are all about building that up. I’m looking forward to it.”

“With this being a six-month deal I know I have stuff to prove,” he concluded. “I’m going to go all out to earn a contract before January comes.

“I’ll be looking to create stuff, score a few goals and do whatever I can for the team. I’m confident in myself, I enjoy what I do, and I’ll always give 100% no matter what.

“It’s another challenge I’m really looking forward to.”
