Midfielder George Glendon joined United last Thursday following successful talks with the manager, and we caught up with him shortly after he put pen-to-paper on his one-year deal at Brunton Park.

“It’s all happened quite quickly but I’m pleased to get it done,” he said. “I know Shez [John Sheridan] and Paul [Murray] from my time at Fleetwood and it was good when I got a phone call off the manager. He told me all about the club and I was really excited to get a chance to come up here and sign.

“It’s important for me that I already know the manager and one of the coaches. The gaffer knows how I play and I know how he wants to play. When he phoned me I knew right away that I just wanted to get it done.

“It must mean I did well for him while we were both at Fleetwood because he’s brought me here with him as well, so that’s nice. To have that relationship with him already is a bonus and I just can’t wait to get going now."

On how we can expect to see him play, he told us: “I like to get the team moving. I’m a ball player but I need to add goals and assists to my game.

"Hopefully this season I can do that, but I do like to get on the ball and pass it around. I like to get attacks going as much as I can so I tend to go and look to collect it and move it on from the back four."

“The gaffer has said it’s going to be an exciting time here," he added. "It’s a massive club and he wants to get it back to where it should be, and I want to do the same.

“It’s an opportunity for me to prove people wrong and make a name for myself, which I’m looking forward to. I didn’t start playing at Fleetwood until the October of the season before last, but once I got in the side I stayed there and I got a lot of games under my belt.

"We reached the play-offs in my first season there, which was a great experience. I actually got my first start for Fleetwood at Brunton Park in the Checkatrade Trophy, so I know how much the fans like to get behind their team."

His career started when he was picked up as a very young lad by one of the biggest clubs in the country, and he progressed through the City youth system to eventually become captain of the Development Squad at the Etihad.

“I was at Manchester City from the age of six and it was a dream come true for me really," he admitted. "I went through all the age groups there and my family are all big City fans, so it was a great experience.

"With the players who are there you learn something every day, It’s a great club, but I knew I needed to get away and try and make a name for myself. Fleetwood was the move I needed at the right time, and hopefully this will be the same.

“It is a relief to get a contract sorted before pre-season starts because you want to make sure you’re fit and ready for the start of pre-season. I want to get in and get to know the lads as soon as possible, so I’m really happy everything has gone through.

“It’s going to be a big season for the club and it’s something I’m really looking forward to.”
