United's under-18s kicked off their pre-season friendly schedule with an away game in Glasgow against Rangers on Friday afternoon.

The Gers fielded a mix of under-17 and under-19 players, with United welcoming five players from the Carlisle United Park View under-19 team into the squad.

Youth boss Darren Edmondson said: "Firstly I'd like to thank everyone from Rangers for the way they've treated us and looked after us. It's been a great experience for the lads, and the staff and management staff up here have been excellent with us from the moment we arrived.

"The game was a fantastic work out for us. Rangers came out of the blocks firing and they were two goals up within the space of just ten minutes, and deservedly so.

"The pleasing things was that our boys reacted to that slap in the face and they settled themselves down. That allowed us to get a bit of control and rhythm into what we were doing and we all felt that we were going to get back into it if we carried that on.

"Josh Galloway scored for us in the second half, but Rangers defended well and held on to their lead. Like I say, the lads will take a lot of positives away from this. It was a good way to start with what is a tough run of pre-season fixtures."
