United's second pre-season friendly was the short hop down to Frenchfield Park to face Penrith.
And a goal either side of the break secured them a two-goal victory on what was an enjoyable afternoon with our local 'rivals.'
United controlled most of the first half and they had the ball in the net on 12 minutes when Glendon held the ball up to allow Grainger to overlap. A drilled cross from the defender took a deflection and bounced over Copland, and into the back of the net, but the flag was up for offside.
Glendon was involved again when he exchanged passes with Jones on the edge of the box. A shot followed from Carlisle's new boy but Copland was well positioned and he gathered it into his chest.
The visiting possession was made to tell just past the half hour when Hope beat his man with a neat turn of pace. An excellent cross found Stockton unmarked and he left the keeper with no chance as he thundered his close range header home.
A younger looking United side took to the field after the break, with seven substitutions for the away team, but it was the hosts who tested the target first when Irving took charge of 22-yard free kick. he got it over the wall but Fryer moved across to make the save.
Carlisle settled into their tempo again and they thought they'd doubled their lead when Egan shook his man off in midfield to send Walters clear on the right flank. A fantastic delivery was met by a Stockton header but Copland twisted in mid air to make a superb save. The follow up header was goal bound but it was cleared off the line by an alert defender.
Chances were hard to come by but the League Two side got their second when Adewusi spotted Egan on a run. He wriggled his way through a challenge and pulled the ball back for Max Brown, who had checked his run on the edge of the area. The young forward steadied himself before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
