First-year professional Max Brown has completed 90 minutes of football in United’s friendly fixtures so far with his second appearance, at Penrith last Saturday, bringing a crisp finish from the edge of the box as he opened his summer account for the first team.
Speaking about pre-season so far, he said: “It’s everything I expected and I’m really enjoying it. It’s been good to get back to playing football.
“The running has been tough, but I knew that would be the case, and it’s all about getting us ready for the start of the season.
“The step up from the youth team has been massive. The intensity levels are much higher and you have to produce it day in and day out.
“You can definitely feel yourself developing and getting better as the weeks go by because you’re learning off the coaches and the more experienced players every day. It’s good to be part of it all.”
And on his goal at Frenchfield Park, he told us: “It was well played by Jack [Egan] to beat his man. I thought he might have had a shot himself once he cut inside.
“Luckily for me he pulled it back and I managed to put it in the corner. It’s a good feeling to score for the first team, even in a friendly. Hopefully I can push on from here and get a few more.
“The manager and the staff were very encouraging about it, but I know it’s what they expect from their strikers. They put demands on us and they want us to keep scoring.”
“The good thing is that we’re being given a chance to show what we can do,” he continued. “We’ve had two games with 45 minutes each in them, and it is about performing once we do get the pitch time.
“The game at Fylde at the weekend will be another tough one and hopefully I’ll add to the pitch time I’ve already had. I’ll be looking to go out there and do well because the Exeter game isn’t too far away now.
“We’re all looking forward to the first game and we all want to be involved because we want it to be a successful season.”
