Carlisle United Football Club can confirm that striker Shaun Miller has today joined Crewe Alexandra on a half-season loan deal which keeps him at the Alexandra Stadium until the end of the current campaign.

Miller, 31, signed a two-year deal with United in June 2016 and scored 14 goals in his 71 appearances for the club.

Manager Keith Curle said: “Shaun is a very professional individual and we've had some good conversations with him recently. He's at a stage where he wants to be getting more pitch time and he wants to be playing games regularly.

"This is an opportunity for him to go back to a club he's familiar with, and where he is very highly thought of having started his career with them.

"It goes without saying that Shaun has an exemplary attitude and he's been a pleasure to work with. We wish him well as he goes down to Crewe for the remainder of the season."

Miller started his career as a trainee with Crewe Alexandra and signed professional terms with the Railwaymen in 2006.

He went on to make over 175 appearances at Gresty Road, bagging 43 goals along the way, and enjoyed a loan spell with Witton Albion into the bargain as he forged his path into the game.

He was snapped up by Sheffield United in the summer of 2012 and he went on to play 35 games and score nine goals for the Blades in his two-year stay.

A two-month loan stay with Shrewsbury, which brought three goals in eight outings, caught the eye of Coventry City and he joined them on a free transfer in the summer of 2014.

He scored twice in his 13 appearances for the Sky Blues and went out on loan to Crawley and York before he signed for Morecambe on a one-year deal ahead of the last campaign.

16 goals in 43 appearances brought him to the attention of the United coaching staff and he became the club’s sixth summer capture just over 18-months ago.
