United boss Keith Curle has confirmed this week that there has been interest in some of his players from other clubs as the January transfer window ticks ever closer to its 11pm Wednesday night conclusion.
One particular rumour which grew legs towards the back end of last week was that defender Mark Ellis had been the subject of enquiries from National League clubs, with half-season loan deals top of the agenda.
“There’s been interest from the league below, and also from our division in a number of players – not just Mark Ellis,” he commented. “The way I work is that I always tell those players if somebody rings up and asks a question, and it’s then down to the player if he wants to pursue it.
“With the quality we have in the squad I don’t need to force anybody out of the door. I’ve been a professional myself, so I know some players will have one eye on next year and the year after that.
“If they aren’t playing here and they see an opportunity to go and enhance or further their career elsewhere I will always give them the option to do that.
“If it suits the player and the club then they can go, there’s no two ways about that. If it isn’t right, it doesn’t happen. Everybody understands that as well.”
