Fleetwood forward Ashley Nadesan completed a deadline day move to Brunton Park on Wednesday and he was quick to point out that he feels he’s at an age and a stage of his career where he needs to be playing regular football in a first team environment.
“I’m ready to come and prove myself,” he said. “I’ve been scoring regularly in the under-23s at Fleetwood but I know that isn’t men’s football. I want to prove to everybody, and to myself, that I can do it in League Two with Carlisle United.
“I really do just think it’s time to prove myself. The management team at Fleetwood have shown trust in me, and now that’s the same with Carlisle, and I just want to give them something back.
“Keith [Curle] and Lee [Dykes] have said they can’t wait to get me up and running. They can see the ambition is there, so it’s up to me to come here and show what I can do.”
“It’s a great challenge for me because I wasn’t really getting first team football in League One at Fleetwood,” he commented. “That’s why I was pleased when I heard Carlisle were interested. It really is a chance I couldn’t turn down.
“Paul Murray was great about it. He phoned me early yesterday and explained the benefits of it all. He used to be at Carlisle and he obviously knows everything about the club and the set-up.
“He said it would be a great move for me, and the club secretary and everybody else down there said the same. They can’t wait to see what the future holds for me now.”
On how the move came about, he said: “I was doing my normal things yesterday when all of a sudden I got the phone call saying that Carlisle were interested. Like I say, it was an offer I felt I couldn’t refuse.
“The step I made from non-league to Fleetwood was huge for me and the first two years have been learning steps from that. I’ve learned a lot from everybody down there, including the players, and I see this as another step in the right direction.
“My game is about scoring goals and helping the team to progress and get the points we need.
“Results have been going well and from the conversations we’ve had it’s a club that wants to push on. It’s exciting to come here to be part of that.”
