The Blues headed into the festive break off the back of a tough home game against table toppers Wigan Athletic this afternoon.
And the in-form Latics took their chances to claim the points despite what was a good performance from the under-18 side.
Youth coach Gavin Skelton said: "The result wasn't a fair reflection of the game.
"We had a number of good chances and their keeper pulled off some excellent stops.
"The difference was that they were clinical in both boxes but, as I say, the lads didn't get the rewards for their commitment."
