The Carlisle Harraby 3G Summer Soccer School children were given a nice surprise on Wednesday afternoon when first team players Richie Bennett and Gary Liddle popped along to say hello and to join in with the second part of the day's session.

CST manager John Halpin said: "It was good of the lads to come along because it's always very exciting for the children when they get to meet the players.

"The highlight for the youngsters was getting a chance to get autographs and to speak to the lads, so we'd all like to thank Gary and Richie for taking time out of their day to come and see us."

Defender Gary Liddle said: "I think we all enjoy appearances like this.

"You can see how much it means to the children and it's good for us to get to see them enjoying the activities our community staff put on for them."

Striker Richie Bennett said: "It's great to see so many children involved in the soccer schools.

"There are some excellent players from what we saw, but the most important thing was that everyone was smiling, laughing and enjoying it.

"It's nice for us to meet the kids and hopefully the weather will stay nice for the rest of their week so that they can finish off their world cup and penalty competitions without getting too soaked!"
