United midfielder Cameron Salkeld has today joined Northern Premier League side Whitby Town on a one-month loan deal.

Salkeld, 19 next week, is a product of the club’s youth system who signed a development contract at Brunton Park, having completed his scholarship, in May this year.

Manager Keith Curle said: “Cameron is at a stage where he needs game time. He’s eager to play competitive football and this move will give him the opportunity to do that.

“He’s going to a club who are looking to get results quickly and he will need to settle in and show that he can have a positive impact. It will be a good challenge for him and one that I know he’s looking forward to.”

Salkeld was called up to the first team squad whilst still a second-year youth team player and made his debut for the club in the Checkatrade Trophy home game against Blackburn Rovers in October 2016.

He scored his first senior goal against Fleetwood in the same competition, one month later, as he broke into the box from the right flank.

Salkeld will be available for the Whitby Town home game against Witton Albion on Saturday afternoon.
